Kreativquartier Fürstenfeldbruck : 1st prize
Our project in the historic town of Fürstenfeldbruck develops a new and innovative urban quarter that brings together creative workspace and living space along the banks of the river Amper. The design completes and provides a new relevance for the green spaces along the river as both a recreational asset for the whole town and an integral part for the new development. The new quarter is cradled in this ‘green network’ that connects town centre, park, valley landscape, and the historic cloister with each other via a mixture of new bridges, romantic pathways, and riverfront promenades.
A creative dynamic city quarter cannot be created overnight, rather it must be developed over time on the basis of active catalysts and targeted initiatives. At Fürstenfeldbruck our catalysts are concentrated into two hubs of activity, an ‘Innovation, Knowledge and Prototyping Hub’ based around the library on the Werkskanal, and a ‘Culture, Start-Ups and Makers Hub’ on the former slaughterhouse site. The activities of these two hubs compliment each other and together generate an active, diverse, and innovative urban quarter united by one shared identity. The new quarter is formed of a variety of sub-zones, each one characterised by different strengths, typologies and spatial characteristics. Our strategy foresees a steady development over time, whereby every stage of the development adds to the variety of programmatic and architectural elements within the masterplan to create a genuine strength in depth.
